LAURIE

SHULMAN

Laurie's experience in the educational field is as impressive as it is extensive. She earned her Bachelor of Science degrees in Elementary Education and in Elementary and Secondary Special Education at the University of Maryland. She taught for 16 years in various special education programs for Montgomery County Public Schools and holds a Master's Equivalent in Special Education from the Montgomery County Public School system. Since then, Laurie became the senior tutor and special education consultant at the Treatment and Learning Centers for the Kathrine Thomas School.

Her efforts were publically recognized in 1995, when she received the Special Education Tutor of the Year award through United Givers. She remains an avid advocate for students in Montogomery County Public Schools, especially those who have IEPs that need to be re-evaluated or rewritten.

Laurie has worked for Jill Broder's Tutoring Center for the last seven years. She holds certification for the Wilson Reading System and the Stevenson Language Program. As a tutor, Laurie specializes in Orton Gillingham methodology, writing skills, and executive functioning skills. She works with students in preparation for any of the Maryland Functional Tests as well as lower level of the SSAT.

We make our services available at the Center,
